In conjunction with the Arts, Communications & Languages Community, Drew University’s Music Department held its FIRST networking event from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019. In attendance were staff, faculty, students and alum, who came from as far away as North Carolina. One alum, Kevin Holmes C’74, had the privilege of playing a Concert of Sacred Music with Duke Ellington and his orchestra at Drew’s Baldwin Gym on October 1, 1972. Also in attendance was Professor Emeritus Norman Lowrey, mask-maker and composer, who taught music at Drew University for almost 40 years, and Adam Vidiksis C’01, Assistant Professor of Music Studies/Composition/Music Technology at Temple University and composer, conductor, percussionist, improviser, and technologist based in Philadelphia. The flute ensemble also performed. Trevor Weston, Chair of the Music Department and Yasmin Acosta, Launch Catalyst, hosted the event. Trevor discussed the importance of bringing everyone together every year to share experiences and strengthen Drew’s musical community and Yasmin encouraged everyone to join Drew Connect to continue to build relationships with staff, faculty, students and alum.
