The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is the leading national organization dedicated to defending and extending civil liberties for all people in this country. The ACLU is a leader in the fight for equal opportunity regardless of skin color, gender, or sexual orientation. The Civil Liberties Intern helps screen requests for assistance from individuals and organizations, assists complaints in resolving disputes, and identifies community resources while developing a practical understanding of constitutional law. Alternatives Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive services to individuals and families with special needs enabling them to reach their highest level of independence and integration into the community throughout New Jersey. These services include supported employment, deaf and hard of hearing support, assisted technologies, group homes, day programs, community outreach, and mental and physical health services. U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand offers a Press Internship through the Senate Internship program which is designed to offer students the opportunity to learn and serve through first-hand participation in government service and the legislative process.
