Financial Aid Improvements Are A Good Step, But More May Be Needed For Transfer Students

The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 simplifies many aspects of the Federal financial aid process and the American Families Plan seeks to increase the maximum Pell Grant award by approximately $1,400.  All of this is good news, Inside Higher Ed notes that, “38 percent of first-time students change institutions within their first six years,” and unfortunately, financial aid is typically not portable.  In their article, “Students Are On The Move.  Their Financial Aid Is Not,” they explore the topic and encourage a reexamination of the financial aid process to make it more equitable to transfer students.  Read the article.
