Internship Positions Available
The National Park Service at Mount Rushmore National Memorial announces the Mount Rushmore History Association 13-16 week scholarship internship positions with the branch of Interpretation.
Position Title: Mount Rushmore History Association Intern
Position Description: The Interns will be taught about the history and mission of the National Park Service and preparation and presentation of interpretive products in an extensive seasonal training period at the beginning of the internship. Interns will research, develop and present interpretive presentations on a variety of topics related to the far-reaching themes of Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The interpretive products prepared by the intern will be coached by one of our three National Park Service certified interpretive coaches. The intern will also staff the three information desks at the Lincoln Borglum Museum, Information Center, and Sculptor’s Studio providing visitor information about the park and other state and federal attractions. Visitor assistance will be learned thru direct visitor engagement, answering telephone and mail requests for information. The interns will also perform informal roving interpretation in high-use areas. Other duties may involve special projects required of a high visitation NPS site.
Qualifications: Interns must have a background in history, the natural sciences, public recreation and/or communications fields, enjoy working with the public, and demonstrate effective written and oral communication. The interns must be able to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently and complete assigned tasks within specified time frames.
Requirements: An interview will be required by telephone. The positions are 13-16 weeks, 40 hours per week. The internship positions begin on 5/09/21. Schedules will include two consecutive days off. Intern will be required to work holidays, weekends and evenings. Must wear provided uniform. Personal transportation is required. There is no public transportation to or from Mount Rushmore.

Benefits: Interns will be provided 2, $2,000 scholarship payments one in the middle and one at the end of a minimum 13 week commitment. Internship living assistance will also be provided up to $75/40 hour week. Government housing is complementary to the intern staff and may be available in the summer and is available in the early autumn, winter and early spring.
Interns will be provided with on-the-job training
throughout the internship. The interns will gain
knowledge of the National Park Service, especially
the role of interpretation in protecting and
managing resources.
