Since January 2020, DOHMH has been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic- activities include but are not limited to: Surveillance & epidemiological investigations; lab testing; engaging and providing guidance to healthcare partners; ensuring the safety & health of responders; providing timely and accurate information to the public; promoting the emotional health of New Yorkers and coordinating citywide COVID-19 vaccine administration. With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative to establish, expand, train, and sustain the public health workforce to support jurisdictional COVID-19 prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives over 2 years.
The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will work be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
The Office of External Affairs manages many of the agency’s most critical interactions with the public, from raising awareness and promoting healthy behaviors to advancing policies and responding to health emergencies, including COVID-19.
The Bureau of Communications, housed within the Office of External Affairs, serves as the agency’s in-house publisher and marketer of trendsetting, culturally responsive campaigns, and initiatives. The Bureau also maintains the agency’s website and oversees social media outreach efforts.
Summary Of Position
DOHMH has an opening for a social media engagement coordinator. Reporting to the director of digital strategy, the social media engagement coordinator will be responsible for liaising with the public via the agency’s established social media channels, sharing verified public health guidance and serving as the digital connection for service requests from the public. The social media engagement coordinator will also play a critical role in sharing the agency’s messaging and content with external stakeholders and support other social media staff with the day-to-day management of the agency’s seven social media channels.
Specifically, The Social Media Engagement Coordinator Will
- Review comments and incoming direct messages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Nextdoor daily, and respond to constituents who have service or information requests or questions.
- Liaise with internal subject-matter experts to receive vetted agency responses and expand internal FAQ with approved responses.
- Create messaging guides and social media toolkits based on approved agency social content, versioning our owned messaging for external use.
- Support other social staff with copywriting, scheduling, content creation, photography or other tasks as assigned, including posting content on all agency social platforms.
- Complete photo research and fulfill stock image requests.
- Analyze and report social analytics to share with leadership .
- Create trackable URLs and analyze performance for campaigns and messaging kits.
- Project manage translation requests for campaign messaging.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in communications, English, marketing, public health, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in fields related to digital communications, social media or marketing for one to two years.
- Capacity and willingness to learn.
- The ideal candidate for this position must be a pro-active and self-motivated individual with the ability to work in teams and in a highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and timelines.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, including knowledge of AP style.
- Experience managing or developing content for social media channels for a government agency, nonprofit or CBO.
- Comfortable translating academic/scientific health research into plain language.
- High level of comfort with data, reporting and analytics.
- Video production and editing skills.
- Must be available to work after hours and weekends during emergency activations as needed.
- Demonstrated experience developing creative, engaging content.
- Desire to grow professionally, develop new skills and willingness to work outside of comfort zone.
- Ability to prioritize and work in fast-paced environment with hard deadlines.
- This is a temporary grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
- Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
- This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
