Director of Family Ministries, P/T
at The Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township (“PCCT”)
If you love children, teaching, and church, and have a heart for serving others for the Common Good, join us as our new Director of Family Ministries. We are looking for a leader to bring a more “community service” focus to our Sunday school and Wednesday after-school programming for children and their families in both outreach and education. We are a theological progressive, 700-member Presbyterian church located in beautiful Chatham Township, New Jersey, commutable from NYC, and part of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
The Director of Family Ministries (“DFM”) will be a Christian who loves church and families, especially children. This is a new position to be filled by a leader who is energized by the opportunity to build something awesome and relevant for our times. The new DFM will implement our emerging vision for service-oriented, family-focused, hands-on learning experiences for children from nursery through and including eighth grade for the program year. The DFM will share in worship, organize and train teachers for Sunday School, and develop new programming around our mission outreach theme for families. A full job description is available from our church administrator Ceri Gilpin who can be reached at (973) 635-2340 or email@example.com.
Time Commitment and Benefits: This position is envisioned as a 28 hour per week salaried post but we are open to considering a full-time with benefits role for the right candidate.
Although summers are typically vacation time, we would like to train a new hire this summer to be ready for the September church program year. The new DFM can expect two Sundays off during the school year plus four weeks annual vacation. The DFM will attend weekly church staff meetings on Tuesdays, lead Wednesday afternoon and evening family programming, join us in worship and in church school on Sundays. The Director of Family Ministries attends regular supervisory meetings as well as serving on the Christian Education committee.
Education and skills: Have a BA or BS degree, preferably in education; ideally in religious education, or similar experience. We pray your love of teaching children and leading community service projects will shine through. We seek someone personable with all ages and who possesses strong communication skills, is computer savvy, and comfortable using social media platforms. Previous experience as a Director of Christian Education or Director of Family Ministry is a plus, or relevant experience on a church staff, as a teacher, or as a volunteer coordinator.
