How To Find Internships and Jobs on LinkedIn and

Right now, many students are looking for summer internships and jobs in the non-profit or social impact sectors that will build their skills and resumes, and advance their personal and professional goals. Right here in all career communities on Launchpad, to the right under “Featured Opportunities,” we regularly post interesting internships and jobs that we find. Cast your net wider, though, and go out exploring on your own! and LinkedIn are two good places to look, especially when you make use of their extensive search and filter functions, and the ability to create a saved search with daily email alerts. They differ in a few ways, so it is helpful to set up saved searches on both sites. There are other platforms as well, but I find these two particularly useful.

If you are looking specifically for an internship or job with a non-profit or in an area of social impact, check out It is a global nonprofit that connects people with ways to build a better world through internships, jobs, graduate programs and volunteer opportunities in every area of interest. The filter functions are super helpful and include:

  • Remote or on-site
  • Paid or unpaid
  • Job functions such as advocacy, development & fundraising, DE&I, events, law, marketing & communications, research, teaching
  • Interest areas such as arts & music, children & youth, communications, economics, education, environment & sustainability, health & medicine, international relations, science & technology
  • Social issues such as climate change, education, food security & hunger, housing & homelessness, immigration & refugees, LGBTQ, mental health, sexual abuse & human trafficking, veterans

The search and filter features of LinkedIn can also help you find an internship with a non-profit or government organization, addressing numerous social issues. The site includes an additional helpful filter for “date posted,” to help you find the most recent internship opportunities, and a filter for “job level” to help you filter for entry-level positions. As with Idealist, you can search for remote or on-site, however you must search using key words such as non-profit and the job function or interest area you are looking for. Unfortunately, it does not allow you to search for paid or unpaid opportunities.

The most challenging part of completing an internship is usually the job of finding one. Start early and cast your net wide.
